Controlled and Monitored Systems

Obstruction lighting systems are used to ensure aviation safety.

The uninterrupted operation of obstruction lighting systems must be ensured in accordance with applicable regulations; therefore, control and monitoring systems are essential. Especially in the case of complex systems, a visual assessment of the system’s status is usually not possible.

I Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and switchovers to emergency power systems can be integrated into the control systems. The UPS system is adapted to the type and number of connected obstruction lights in order to provide the necessary power. As a general rule, the duration of an interruption should not exceed 2 minutes.

Solutions for Remote Control and Monitoring

DeWiTec’s control and monitoring systems include standard solutions for individual obstruction lights as well as customized and project-specific configurations for the implementation of complex systems, such as those on crane installations, chimneys, cooling and radio towers, tall structures, and wind turbines.

II GSM Monitoring

Monitoring, Control, and Alarm System via Mobile Networks

Various interfaces enable connection to the existing building management system (BMS) or location-independent transmission via the mobile network (GSM). A GPS-based system is available for synchronizing larger installations.

Features

  • Monitoring of the operating status using any mobile phone

  • Reports can be pre-programmed and sent to configured mobile phone numbers and email addresses

  • Remote monitoring of obstruction light settings

  • IP68 rating of the obstruction lights is maintained

  • Access to obstruction light diagnostics at any time

  • Effective and cost-efficient monitoring solution

Additional Features for Battery/Solar-Powered Obstruction Lights

  • Secure web interface available via login

  • Feedback and notifications can only be provided to authorized users

  • Flexible user configuration

  • Web server provides easy access to obstruction light diagnostics and history

  • Data analysis enables proactive maintenance management

Various DeWiTec Obstruction Lights Are Available with GSM Monitoring

This cost-effective monitoring solution enables users to monitor and control the operating status of any obstruction light equipped with a GSM module. The system can be configured to send (alarm) SMS notifications to predefined mobile phone numbers when specific predefined events occur.

The GSM monitoring system is a fully integrated module (installed either inside or outside the obstruction light) that enables monitoring via mobile phone, email or an online interface (battery/solar-powered obstruction lights only). Each obstruction light is equipped with its own SIM card, which establishes a connection via the mobile network. Any network operator providing sufficient GSM coverage can be used.

To monitor the operating status, the user simply sends an SMS with a specific command and immediately receives an SMS response containing the most important details. For battery/solar-powered obstruction lights, this information is additionally available via the Avlite website and can also be sent to designated email addresses. The web interface also provides access to the operating history of each obstruction light.

Monitoring

  • Operating status

  • Switching to backup obstruction light / light source (for dual obstruction lights)

  • Mains power failure

Monitoring of Battery/Solar-Powered Obstruction Lights (Additional)

  • Battery voltage

  • Current flow

  • Day/night status

  • Current flash pattern

  • Obstruction light position (longitude and latitude, with GPS module)

Control

  • ON/OFF

  • Flash pattern (battery/solar-powered obstruction lights)

  • Intensity (battery/solar-powered obstruction lights)

Available Alarms

  • Low battery voltage (battery/solar-powered obstruction lights)

  • No GPS signal (battery/solar-powered obstruction lights with GPS module)

  • Light source failure

  • Power supply failure

III GPS Synchronization

Features

  • Long-range flash synchronization via GPS satellites

  • No distance limitations or interference from objects located between the obstruction lights

  • Each obstruction light operates independently – no operator intervention is required during operation

  • Internal GPS modules maintain the IP68 rating of the obstruction light

  • Obstruction lights of the same type with the same flash pattern synchronize automatically

No additional power supplies, antennas or control systems are required for the GPS system to function properly. The system is microprocessor-based and has been designed to provide maximum reliability under a wide range of environmental conditions. GPS-based synchronization is the simplest way to clearly mark obstacles, boundaries or platforms.

How Does GPS Synchronization Work?
Synchronization is achieved through an internal algorithm based on the highly precise time signal received from the satellites. At system start-up, the microprocessor verifies that the GPS module is correctly programmed and capable of processing the time information accurately.

Battery/solar-powered obstruction lights switch off their GPS module during daylight hours to reduce power consumption.

All features mentioned depend on the individual product configuration. The DeWiTec team will be happy to assist you personally.
